The Africa Prosperity Network (APN), organizers of the annual Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD), has sued the UK-based Sankofa Advisory Group, organizers of Africa Oil Week (AOW), to recover US$300,000 in unpaid service fees.
According to APN, Sankofa acted in bad faith by ending its partnership after APN successfully relocated AOW from Cape Town to Accra, Ghana, in 2024. The move came after years of AOW losing ground to its rival, Africa Energy Week, in Cape Town.
APN alleges that Sankofa’s CEO, Paul Sinclair, reneged on the agreement using “fabricated claims” and falsely blamed pressure from President John Mahama’s government. APN points to strong public support from both the Mahama and Akufo-Addo administrations as proof to the contrary.
The lawsuit seeks not only the $300,000 owed but also a share of sponsorships, damages for breach of contract, and costs. APN accuses Sankofa of exploiting its networks and reputation to secure AOW’s relocation before abruptly cutting ties.
The case is being pursued in Ghana’s High Court, with APN’s lawyers applying to serve Sankofa outside Ghana’s jurisdiction.
